Happy New Year, Happy New Goals

Happy New Year!

Is it me or does 2019 appear to be a promising one?

It looks like everywhere I look on social media, people are declaring that 2019 is going to be their best year yet.

Or does this happen every year?

You may feel discouraged, perhaps things did not go to plan the way you expected in 2018. I want to encourage you that it’s not too late to achieve what you desire most! In the summer of 2017, I was shattered. I planned to release a book I had been working on since the end of 2016. However, when my editor sent back the manuscript, she advised me to rewrite the entire book!

I had to come to terms with the painful reality that this dream of mine was not going to become a reality within the timeframe I had in mind.

Little did I know that this was a set-up!

I had to ask myself, How badly do I want this? And believe me when I say I did whatever it took to make it happen. I used my time and energy to rewrite the manuscript and the results were worthwhile. By the end of 2018, I managed to release my book despite the numerous challenges I faced along the way. As I was using my diary to reflect on the year, I realised that I had written that ‘to publish my book’ was one of my goals for the year.

Two things to learn here:

1. The power of perseverance

2. The power of writing your vision down

My three top tips:

Number One

Perseverance is key.

Just because you could not do it last year does not mean that it cannot still be done. I read a quote this year that really inspired me it said ‘Each passion has its cost. It is the cost that validates the enormity of the passion. It is what you endure that expresses the depth of your desire.’ In other words it is what you are willing to go through to obtain your goal that proves how badly you want it!

Number Two

Do not have too many goals.

Sometimes I think I am superwoman, I write down many goals every year but I am learning that it is better to have one or two goals because it requires a lot of FOCUS to achieve a goal.

Number Three

Don’t share your vision with too many people.

I found that sharing my vision with someone I trusted was helpful as they helped by supporting my dream. However, sharing it with people who were not in my inner circle led to discouragement. So please, you must learn to protect your vision!

I hope this post inspires you to keep chasing your dreams and remember this will be your best yet, if you decide not to give up!
