Sapphire Raves

THE FIRST EVER CHRISTIAN NIGHT CLUB

Rave Means:

  • Speak or write about something with great enthusiasm or admiration

  • Excessive Passion

  • To Dream

  • To Shine

  • Not caring about people's opinion of them but free to radically express themselves

  • A Safe space where you are free to be weird and not fit into anyone's box

As it stands, the UK is an anomaly compared to the rest of Europe. Rather than viewing its nighttime culture as a valuable point of attraction, it is – more often than not – discussed in relation to antisocial or criminal behaviour. These attitudes were perhaps best summed up in comments made by Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe. In a speech to the Royal Society of Arts, he claimed that 80 percent of crimes committed in the UK were drink-related, and further suggested that a way of combating this issue would be to reduce the number of pubs.

Sapphire is doing something that has never been done before. Have you ever heard of a Christian Night Club? When have you ever heard of a club that plays no rough abusive secular music and sells no alcohol? When have you ever heard that a community organisation opened up a nightclub that positively empowers young people? We are taking the change to them. We are not afraid to step into places that people have been afraid to. We are telling our young people that we love them and will ensure that they have the best so that they can arise to be the leaders we know they can be.

There will be no alcohol so that we can reduce the stigma around toxication and having fun. We aim to show young people that they do not need drugs or alcohol to have a good time. Additionally we will not be playing grime or vulgar music so that we create an atmosphere of inspiration and affluence. We will also be promoting young people's music and creativity every night. We want a place where young people can network and have a good time. We also want to help young people who are struggling with mental health issues such as anxiety and depression so that they have a safe place to have fun and meet other people.

The Sapphire Rave Club can step in as a force for good to help reduce the violence and create a place of love and power. The night will involve good food, drinks and music. We will also be ensuring that every person that leaves the night, will not be leaving without an impact but leaves with an impaction. We not only create a fun atmosphere but a creation of inspiration and purpose. We aim to enable each young person that comes in broken, leaves with a touch of greatness. We aim to birth forth dreams and cause their face to shine with new and boundless possibilities.

Sapphire Community Group is a charity that helps young people find their creative purpose. We want to invite you to our monthly writer workshops!

Sapphire Community Group is a charity, based in London, that helps young people find their purpose through media, art, film, performance and literature. Jasmine Cannon-Ikurusi, our director, is a self-published author of four books, with a passion for writing and pushing ahead for your goals, no matter what boundaries you face.

Do you have a piece of writing you would love to share with a group of people with the same goals as you?

We are hoping to find a group of 11 or 12 writers, in different genres, all who share the same passion for writing as we do! We aim to do these workshops in the first Saturday of every month, so please come along.

POET

POET

Literature used to be one of the most sacred traditions of humanity but slowly the born of a new era, eradiacted something that our ancestors struggled to built. Did you not know that knowledge is power? The literature economy is declining everyday. Our society has lost the fight and has exchanged mediocracy for power. There is power in words.

There are many writers out there in our world, who are struggling to find their voice? They are struggling to finish their book or script or blog post or poem. The support for writing has become a cash venture. Did you know that the cemetary is the richest soil? For how long would we bury the greatness within us? For how long would we suppress the writing potentials that has been birthed forth in you?

POET is for the misunderstood.

POET is for the voices who have been oppressed.

POET is for those who are ready to fight.

POET is for the creatives.

POET is for the next generation of authors.

WAY Workshops

Is it just me?

Is it just you?

I know there were days when I thought that something in me, had just died. There were days when living became hard. There were moments when the fragments of my soul was breaking into a million pieces. I was lost to the roaring seas. There were days when there was no iota hope. There was moments when I wanted to silence the voices. Many told me that I would never amount to anything. The world told me that I would fail, even before I could start to walk. There was moments when darkness was my best friend. I lacked purpose. I lacked direction. I thought that living was for the weak. I thought that fighting was an unknown phenomena to me. I had given up. I had retired to depression when I found hope. I found love. I found a reason to smile. Many say that brokenness is the end of you, but I am here to tell you that there is life after the rain.

What is W.A.Y?

Do you know who you are?

Do you know whose you are?

Do you know what you are called to do?

THE IDENTITY FASHION SHOW

THE IDENTITY FASHION SHOW

Why the name IDENTITY? Because many people have forgotten who they are. We live in a saturated society, where we can easily become lost to the crowd. At Sapphire, we want to make a statement and express ourselves through what we wear. Clothing has proven statistically, to affect mental health issues in by young people. We are aiming to dress the outside positively and simultaneously positively dress the mind. This fashion show event, will showcase the work of 30 fashion students and designers. Additionally, we will tackle issues such as inequality, diversity and mental health.

Sunday 25th November, is a day to celebrate young people inside and out. To celebrate all the work achieved by our fashion students and give these voices a chance to express themselves through the beauty of fashion. The day would consist of music, poetry, speakers, dance and a fashion show. There would be food and drink. A day we unite young people through their talents and remind them, that who they are is good enough. We want to reinforce that their identity is what makes them different and stand out from everyone else. We want to educate them on being true to themselves and to stand out despite what society says.

This is the Identity Fashion Show

Electric Music Concert

The Story Behind Electric:

I realised that there are four different ways, we can impact the world. Through what we watch, through what we read, through where we go and lastly through what we listen to. I realised that influencing the world as we know it, can only be achieved through these four modems.

Music has a major impact on the minds of young people. We want to mold and create a funnel of greatness.

Statistics support our research and even go to the extent of showing that music has a positive outlook on their minds and helps young people to express themselves. Additionally music has proved to help young people deal with emotional and mental wounds. Overall music when harnes accordingly, can create a legacy. At Sapphire we do not want to make any type of music, but music that outlives a generation. We want to make music that matters.

Sapphire is happy to announce the launch of our music creatives label.

Event Overview:

The Open Mic event will serve as two different key functions. A launch for the artists on the label as well as an introduction to the radio show. Both of these projects are connected by a single thread of expression. The two platforms are made by the Sapphire Community Group to provide a platform for young people to express themselves in ways that they could not before.

The radio show provides an honest open discussion on what is on young people's minds without the restrictions that are often put on them. it is for young people run by young people. The topics range from issues concerning identity and purpose to the pressures of young people and how their environment is shaping their opportunities in life. This is an open discussion based on expression of the youth of the UK.

The music label is a more creative platform of expression. This platform allows young people to express themselves through more than just words. It allows for them to use melody, poetry and instrumentation to vividly paint their thoughts and feelings. This is where young people can really express who they are as an individual as opposed to bouncing off of others in a discussion. The open mic will be hosted by the radio show and feature artists on the label to combine both mediums of expression and present Sapphire’s vision. Helping young people express themselves in ways they could never before.

The night will consist of showcasing the young talent of creatives in London. Our artists will express their journies and storeis through the beauty of music. We want to bring the community together through the beauty of music.

Come and hear the best music that London has to offer.

There will be a line up of 7 artits on the night with spoken word.

To get involved in our future music projects, go on www.sapphirecommunitygroup.org

Black History Month: Windrush

  • Sapphire Community Group, We Work (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Sapphire Community Group invites you to commemorate the Black history month by attending a panel discussion about the Windrush generation. June 1948 saw the arrival of many West Indian immigrants, that came aboard the 'Empire Windrush' and settle in Britain, to help with the post-war labour shortage.

A panel consisting of a member from the London Metropolitan Archives and Sapphire Community Activists will discuss the important contributionWindrush generation has made to UK political and cultural life. There will be a Q and A at the end, for you to take part to engage.

This event is a way for people to engage, self-reflect and make positive changes within our society.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH:

Black History Month was created by historian, Carter G. Woodson (1875-1950) in the US. He wanted to challenge preconceptions at the time that 'the negro has no history' and founded The Association for the Study of Negro Life and History in 1915, which encouraged scholars and historians to research and preserve black history and culture.

In February 1926, Woodson founded Negro History Week.

It was later decided that a week wasn't long enough and against the backdrop of the civil rights movement, and the Black Power Movement, Black History Month was born in 1969.

It wasn't long before word about Black History Month made its way to the UK.

PUSH

PUSH means you will keep pushing yourself even when you want to give up. Even when it means that you are giving life all you have but there are no hopeful results. It is a metaphor to symbolise resilience, tenacity and determination.

Not only would we empower young people's work, but also teach you free of charge how to cultivate the artistic talents within. We have sessions for Under 5s, Under 12s, 13-17 and 18 up.

Art tells a story. Art liberates. Art unites homes. Art expresses. Art heals. Art is therapy. Art is life. We want to educate and empower our world through the beauty of Art. Its called PUSH, because it pushes all the pain, negativity and creates the image of hope.

Join us for a whole day of art. A day to celebrate generations of legacies.

Additionally, there will be an art evening show starting from 5-9 where there will be food, drinks, entertainment, talks from the artists, poetry, music and artists work on sale.

Our All White Young Women Annual Event.

Theme this year 'Veil'

We must change what the world says of us and how statistics show that,  “we account for only 5% of the world's CEO's of Fortune 500 and 1000.” It is time we come out of obscurity and take our place as leaders! We can do anything we set our minds to do! Fear of never being good enough or inadequate is no longer our lord! We will use our pain and scars to mould a united world!

A DAY WE CELEBRATE WOMEN.

WE HAVE 7 PANELISTS, SINGERS, POETS AND MANY MORE.

THERE IS PRIZE GIVEAWAYS AND AN GOODY BAGS
